Guided by its founding principles of "Fraternity, Light, and Freedom," the university began as the South Korea Social Work School in 1956, specializing in special education, and was elevated to a comprehensive university in 1981. It has been recognized as an "Excellent University" in the National Model University Comprehensive Evaluation and has twice received outstanding ratings in the "University Welfare Evaluation for Students with Disabilities." The university has two campuses: the Gyeongsan Campus (main campus) in Gyeongsan City, and the Daegu Campus in Daemyeong-dong, Daegu City. It comprises seven administrative offices, twelve colleges, and seven graduate schools, along with sixteen affiliated institutions, including the Central Library, all dedicated to providing students with the highest-quality educational and administrative services. With an annual budget of over KRW 200 billion, the university is committed to building a state-of-the-art smart campus and fostering an outstanding educational infrastructure. It pioneered groundbreaking internet infrastructure in South Korea, establishing a fully digital campus. The university successfully attracted the Regional IT Specialization Research Institute and the Gyeongbuk Ubiquitous Technology Research Center to jointly undertake a national project with an investment of KRW 13 billion, setting a standard for South Korea's ubiquitous industry.


Daegu University has signed academic exchange agreements with nearly 300 overseas universities across 30 countries to strengthen global exchanges. It offers scholarships specifically for international students to help alleviate their financial burdens. Over its half-century history, Daegu University has nurtured numerous outstanding talents and currently ranks seventh in graduate employment rates among all South Korean universities and first among universities outside the capital region.
